To make Shinryu instead something personally linked to Zenos feels wrong, somehow. The remainder of Hydaelyn is probably a good enough substitute for the amount of aether, but Shinryu was formed from distinctly ala mhigan hopes and thoughts, and influenced by the fact the aether was coming from dragon eyes.Īlso more than that it just feels weird due to how again, Shinryu was not summoned by Zenos originally, but by people distinctly against him. Zenos wasn't present for the original summoning, and the eyes are obviously not available. Shinryu was summoned by Ala Mhigans using Nidhogg's eyes as the main source of aether. Those last primals are summoned by members of the beast tribes who have them as gods in their mythos, a long history of worshipping them, it makes sense that they could summon one that was near identical except willing to help summon a spaceship. We know that primals are affected by who does the summoning and what aether is used, we see this in our botched versions of primals in the Eden quests as well as things like the crying version of Titan influenced by Ga Bu, or all the primals helping power the ragnarok. His voice actor is in Endwalker! I guess maybe they decided making the omega raids canon would be too much or somethingĬlick to shrink.that's true, but Shinryu was a primal, not a dragon. Honestly, it almost feels like it was supposed to be him instead. In fact, hell, why not bring midgardsormr back for it? I know it gets mentioned that he's taking a little nap but he could slide right in to Shinryu's role and it'd be a nice callback to his role in guiding us for parts of ARR, and a good finale to the whole bit about the dragon homeland - Middy fled his world to a place he thought was the last bastion of hope, and now he was repaying his debt by taking that hope to the edge of the world and preventing the death of the universe. You could completely remove his parts, find some other reason to make a platform to fight the endsinger on, and I don't think the story would suffer at all for it.
Like most of his involvement in the story post-SB, it just felt contrived. Distaste for zenos aside, I still want to know how he managed to perfectly re-summon Shinryu (which was born from Ala Mhigan desires to see their city freed from his rule, it's not just some cool dragon) and how nobody thought that letting him eat the rest of hydaelyn to do it was a good idea
